Dear Friends:

Today, I write to you with a request to all, especially our youth.

This last week, as my training and conditioning was reaching new heights, building a running base back to 100 miles per week, I was hit with news that an infection challenge encompassed an abnormal cell type.  Now, my plate encompasses (1) containment of the physical challenge and (2) advocacy work that includes the unmet needs associated with a global economic/humanitarian crisis and ironically the Millennium Medicine Project that targets 5 billion people who do not have access to basic surgical services or advanced diagnostics in rural medicine.

Since sports aspirations, training and conditioning served as the foundation for my youth leadership and community service work, I emphasize the importance of  health promotion.  It is only when we develop the physical, mental and spiritual strength, that we can tackle the stresses associated with the challenges in our lives, communities and world we live in.  For 20 years, since my first national projects for substance abuse, hunger, homelessness, poverty and community service, "Bridging Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources" has been the focus and mission of Humanitarian Resource Institute that was formed in 1994.

During this time challenges included:
  • 1990:  CycleAcrossAmerica.org: Lack of access to substance abuse educational materials and support programs to address the #1 problem in American society.
  • 1993:  Run AcrossAmerica.org: The huge communication gap between the needs of frontline service programs and what the public perceived these needs to be.
  • 1994:  Humanitarian.net: Formation of Humanitarian Resource Institute.
  • 1994-99: Working to develop unmet needs networks, from the frontline service programs to the grassroots level in every US city/county.
  • 1999: Per the request of FEMA leadership, global infrastructure analysis and contingency planning for the Year 2000 Conversion.
  • 2001: Policy initiatives to support surveillance, containment and control during the 2001 Foot and Mouth Outbreak, protect farmers and prevent the unnecessary destruction of 10.5 million farm animals. Pathobiologics International Graphic: Main Page.
  • 2002-2007: National efforts to stop predatory lending, mortgage and appraisal fraud that resulted in the housing market crash of 2007.
  • 2008: Strategic planning and development of humanitarian efforts associated with containment/stabilization following the global market crash.
  • 2010: Appeals for grassroots assistance to address the ongoing economic crisis on the grassroots level in the United States and UN member countries.
To say that the challenges outlined above encompassed a degree of stress, would be an understatement, especially when you personally identify with the victims..... But during this 20 year anniversary, it is evident that the task of "Bridging Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources," education, strategic planning and development must expand, and this can only happen if each and every one of us join together to make this task a reality, with the support system of Humanitarian Resource Institute.

Communication is the key, with a mission focus that can be summarized in the simple question: What are the Unmet Needs?

Please keep these efforts and challenges in your prayers.

In deepest appreciation,
