EDUCATION INITIATIVE

Two years into the economic
downturn, arts organizations and families have taken a serious hit. In
an effort to provide a lifeline to students, coaches, athletes and parents,
Stephen Michael Apatow, [1] founder of the United Nations Arts Initiative,
[2] Sports Medicine & Science Institute [3] and International Dancescience
Development Program [4] is opening access to education and support resources.
Born and raised in
Southern Connecticut, academic aspirations in the fields of medicine, combined
with sports development served as the inspiration for a sabbatical and pursuit
of international competition. Sports included ultra-distance running and cycling,
cross country skiing and rowing. The ability to spend 6 years in full time
training, came from support of US Olympic development programs, training
centers and scholarships that included concentrations in classical dance
development. In an effort to give back, initiatives were nurtured for youth
leadership, dance and sports development programs across the United States.

positive change. This theme is reflected in the following excerpt from a
resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, 25 November 1997:
52/21. -- Reaffirming
the Olympic Ideal for the Purpose of Continuing the Progress
of Humanity [5]
