Biodefense Discussion:  Pathobiologics International

Article:
The economic impact of swine flu may not be that bad, The Economist, 23 July 2009.

I have been pushing for seroprevalence studies that focus on active immunity to constituent genomic attributes of the H1N1 (2009).. if it has circulated and global immunity is established, we can limit fear associated with the fall season ( and multiple pandemic waves) that can overwhelm hospitals, panic associated crisis, etc., etc..

If recombination facilitates a new strain with more severe clinical manifestations (like 1918 that started mild),  then surveillance, containment and control will be a focus, schools shut down, businesses, air travel, etc., etc, add multiple waves over a 12-24 month period....  All I can say is we need to get our economic house in order regardless of the pandemic challenge, and the test for stability in that regard will be full regulatory oversight of the OTC derivatives and shadow banking system (cause of the global economic collapse, still not contained).

Subject: Emergency Economic Dialogue: Banking - Gov Bailout Funds

Dear Colleagues:

Prior to the calculated infusion of central banks funds to support remediation efforts for the Year 2000 Conversion, market protections afforded by Glass-Seagall were removed, allowing for direct infusion of those funds into trading activities by non-bank financial institutions.  The result of those activities facilitated the market bubble and 2001-02 Crash.

Removal of regulatory oversight of the OTC derivatives market (Commodities Futures Modernization Act) provided the foundation for derivatives instruments based on  mortgages written under the umbrella of predatory lending, mortgage and appraisal fraud.  The resultant market collapse attributed to the OTC derivatives market and shadow banking system has now led to our current economic depression that has devastated 192 member states of the United Nations.

Though we are seeing stabilization in the banking industry, profit motivations of the banks (non-bank financial institutions) are now transitioning government backed loans into high risk OTC derivatives trades (not yet regulated), not lending to the corporate, small business or household level.  This is similar to the scenario we watched occur in conjunction with the Year 2000 conversion,  with maximal leverage, now supported by the confidence of government backed loans.

Looking forward to your feedback regarding emergency measures to stop further destruction to the global financial system.
